I'm Anita, the maker and creative behind A Piece of the South. I've always been happiest when I'm making something, experimenting with an idea, or finding a way to turn something ordinary into something a little more special. I wasn't born in the South. My husband's love of all things Southern is what first brought our family here, but somewhere along the way, it became the place where we found our hearts and our home. I fell in love with the warmth, traditions, sense of community, and especially the idea of Southern hospitality—the way something homemade, a thoughtful gift, or a seat around the table can make someone feel genuinely welcome and cared for. A Piece of the South grew from my desire to celebrate that feeling through the things I create. My work spans both handcrafted art and small-batch Southern-inspired sweets. That may seem like an unusual combination at first, but to me they belong together. Whether I'm preserving flowers in resin, creating something beautiful for the home, experimenting with a new confection, or developing a syrup around a flavor I love, it all comes back to making something that can become part of a moment—a gift for someone you love, something served when friends gather around the table, or simply a little treat you take home for yourself. Most of my ideas begin with a color, a flower, a flavor, an ingredient, or even a memory that catches my attention. From there, I experiment until it becomes something I'm genuinely excited to put on my table and share with someone else. That's really the heart of A Piece of the South: celebrating the place we've come to call home and the hospitality that made us fall in love with it, through things that are **a little special, a little unexpected, and made to be shared.**
